Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Side Notes (“the Extension”) is a browser extension that provides a sidebar notepad for notes, to-do lists, and quick memos. This policy explains what data is involved and how it is handled.

We do not operate a Side Notes cloud account for your notes. Your note content is stored locally in your browser. We do not sell your data.

2. Data stored on your device

The Extension may store the following locally on your device:

• Note titles and content (rich text / HTML) you create
• Note metadata (created / updated timestamps)
• Settings such as theme, checklist behavior, floating-button visibility, and related preferences
• Active note selection and similar UI state

Local storage uses browser mechanisms such as IndexedDB and extension storage. Clearing site/extension data or uninstalling the Extension may delete this information.

3. What we do not collect

• We do not require you to create an account or sign in
• We do not upload your notes to Side Notes servers
• We do not sell personal data
• We do not scrape webpage content for our servers; the optional floating button is only a UI control to open the notepad

4. Permissions (why they are used)

• storage / unlimitedStorage — save settings and your notes locally
• sidePanel — show the notepad beside the current page
• tabs — open the full-tab editor and update the floating button
• downloads — save Markdown / text / JSON files when you export (or enable auto-download)
• Host access (pages you visit) — only to show an optional floating entry button; no remote upload of page text by Side Notes

5. Exports and downloads

If you use Export or auto-download Markdown, files are written to your computer (for example the browser Downloads folder) under your control. Those files are not sent to us by the Extension.

6. Third parties

The Extension does not include third-party analytics SDKs for tracking your notes. Browser vendors (e.g. Chrome / Edge) and the extension store may process installation and update metadata under their own policies.

7. Children

The Extension is not directed at children under 13. Do not use it to store sensitive information about minors.

8. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Extension after changes means you accept the updated policy.
